What Are They?
Effort Values, or EVs, are points which are added to your stats when you
level up. You can only get a maximum of 510 EVs total. Further, you can
only have a maximum 255 EVs per stat. Certain Pokemon and items are used in
EV training.
How Do You Get Them?
You can get EVs by using Vitamins. Each Vitamin adds 10 EVs to the
corresponding stat. You can give a Pokemon up to 10 of the same Vitamin,
equalling 100 EVs per stat. The best bet is to use these only on the stat you
want to EV train for, and then only if you have $100 000 to spare. I will
list the Vitamins and the stat that they correspond to:
| Protein |
Attack |
| Carbos |

| Zinc |

As well, certain Pokemon give EV points. The best ones for EV training the
corresponding stat are:

As a side note on EVs, there is a certain item and status condition which
promotes EV growth. The item is the Macho Brace. It is a hold item which
doubles the EV growth of a Pokemon. The status condition is called Pokerus,
meaning "Pokemon Virus". It also doubles the EVs earned from fighting a
Pokemon. If your Pokemon has Pokerus and you give it the Macho Brace, it will
get 4× the EVs you would usually get. The thing is, Pokerus is extremely
rare, so you're better off going with the Macho Brace.
